Dodd—Studio is a full service architecture and design firm located in Boulder, Colorado. For the past 28 years we have been involved in a wide range of value-driven, design-oriented projects throughout the rocky mountain region. Our mission is to collaborate with clients to create elegantly functional and environmentally responsible spaces that fit their surroundings and lift the human spirit.
We believe in a client-centered and experientially-based approach to the design process. Founder Steve Dodd studied with Christopher Alexander, author of the seminal The Pattern Language, as an architecture student at the University of California at Berkeley. Alexander’s philosophy is rooted in European building traditions which emphasize the experiential qualities of space as defined through a series of universal design principals, or patterns. It represents a hands-on, practical approach to design based on centuries of shared building knowledge. In addition, Steve has travelled widely in Europe and Asia, and in his late twenties visited Japan to interview several modern Japanese architects, including future Pritzker Prize winner Tadao Ando. Ando’s use of traditional Japanese design principles rendered with modern forms and materials became an early and lasting influence for Dodd’s own design philosophy.
Dodd–Studio is at the forefront of technological innovations in the delivery of high quality design and documentation for projects. Since the mid-1990's, the firm has integrated 3d BIM (Building Information Modeling) software and has developed a sophisticated, client-centered approach to collaboration with all members of the design team. Interactive design sessions on a large flat-screen monitor are common, a forum where clients can understand various design decisions by exploring 3d computer models in real time.
We love the design profession and actively seek partnerships with inspired clients and talented consultants, working together to create memorable projects.
